Each One Teach One (EOTO)

Each One Teach One (EOTO) charitable foundation was started in Mumbai in 1983 with five students. The purpose was to encourage and enable children from the economically backward sections of society to continue learning. EOTO's partnership today is with 8000 deserving bright children who are widely praised for their academic scholarship and social responsibility.

The secondary level students teach and support the Primary grade students at schools. This unique cycle of dedicated ownership is a paramount feature of EOTO. Thousands of students have been part of EOTO's noble endeavour of transforming personality and thus changing lives. EOTO operates in urban (Mumbai) Rural (Palghar, Daamothe, Badlapur) Maharashtra and in Benglaroo undertaking need based key projects to improve academic performances as well as the overall positive growth of children.

ToolBox has worked with EOTO over a period of 14 months in the following workstreams:

  1. Mission and vision alignments through the use of interviews and focus group discussions
  2. Business Plan and Funding
  3. Scorecards
  4. Organisation structure
  5. HR issues

Impact of ToolBox Intervention

  • Vision statement put in place to grow EOTO's student base from 8000 today to 70,000 over the next 5 years.
  • Key elements of strategy re-examined to take into account the possibility of regulatory changes which would have an impact on EOTO's ability to work with municipal schools.
  • Process underway to streamline school selection process / designing a cookie-cutter model.
  • Organisation structure being redesigned to facilitate better governance.

Experiences of ToolBox Volunteers and NGO Staff

"ToolBox helped us to streamline job functions for the entire team; this helped us to focus on agendas, which is surely bringing in tangible results."

- Ms. Anita Chandrashekhar, Regional Coordinator, EOTO.
